Liverpool will face Bayern Munich in the next-16 of the Champions League after the draw at UEFA’s Swiss headquarters in Nyon on Monday.
The draw means Jurgen Klopp will be reunited with old adversaries Bayern, and the tie represents the first time the European heavyweights have met in Europe’s premier competition since their semi-final during Liverpool's 1981 winning campaign.
Bayern’s Bundesliga defeated Schalke were first out of the hat and they drew Premier League champions Manchester City, while city rivals Manchester United were handed the task of a tie with PSG.
Tottenham Hotspur will face off against Bundesliga pacesetters Borussia Dortmund, while Barcelona, who topped Spurs’ group, face French side Olympique Lyonnais.
Of the group winners, Juventus were probably handed the toughest assignment, drawing Diego Simeone’s Europa League winners Atletico Madrid; while AS Roma take on Porto, and four-time winners Ajax, making a first knockout stage appearance since 2005-06, will look to compound a tumultuous season for holders Real Madrid.
The first leg matches will be played on February 12, 13, 19 and 20, with the second leg ties set for March 5, 6, 12 and 13.
