Bayern Munich made a third bid for Chelsea attacking midfielder

Bayern Munich have made a third bid in excess of £30m for Chelsea attacking midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi

Bayern Munich made a third bid for Chelsea attacking midfielder

News understands the 18-year-old, who has less than 18 months left to run on his current contract, has refused to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge and is keen on a move to the Bundesliga.
Bayern's latest offer for Hudson-Odoi includes a number of performance-related bonuses along with a significant sell-on clause.
Chelsea chief executive Marina Granovskaia has previously rejected two bids from Bayern for Hudson-Odoi and is understood to value him at closer to £40m.

Hudson-Odoi, who made his senior debut for Chelsea in the 3-0 FA Cup victory over Newcastle last January, is still yet to start a Premier League match for the club.
He featured as a first-half substitute in the Boxing Day victory over Watford, but failed to finish the match with head coach Maurizio Sarri withdrawing him for Emerson Palmieri during the closing stages.

Hudson-Odoi played a key role in England's 2017 U17 World Cup victory, appearing in all nine matches and setting up three goals in the 5-2 victory over Spain in the final.

Transfer Live: Eden Hazard reports unsettling Isco at Real Madrid

The January transfer window is nearly open and clubs across Europe will have the chance to add to their squads.

sportjyst-Isco

With this in mind, we had our friends at Football Whispers take a look at the latest transfer rumours from the continent.
Manchester City transfer target Isco is considering leaving Real Madrid and believes Pep Guardiola is a coach who will make him feel "important" again. The Spain playmaker doesn't feel trusted by new Madrid coach Santiago Solari and rumours of Los Blancos making a move for Chelsea's Eden Hazard has also left him further unsettled at the Bernabeu.
Atletico Madrid is opening contract talks with defender Lucas Hernandez after denying the France international has agreed to join Bayern Munich. Atleti released a statement insisting the 22-year-old is not on the brink of signing for Bayern in a €80m (£72m) deal. But Los Rojiblancos do fear Hernandez could leave and will begin negotiations on Friday over a new contract to keep him in Madrid.

Matthias De Ligt won the 2018 Golden Boy award this week

Juventus are trying to convince Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt his future is best served in Italy than Barcelona. De Ligt won the 2018 Golden Boy award this week and, as a means of pitching the club to the 19-year-old, Juve ensured Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli were sat near him at the ceremony in Turin. The Italian champions are prepared to pay €75m (£68m) for the Dutch international with Ajax requesting young forward Moises Kean as part of the deal.

Italy
Paul Pogba remains a Juventus transfer target despite Jose Mourinho's dismissal at Manchester United. Juve executives are monitoring the France midfielder's situation at Old Trafford very closely as they believe his long-running argument with Mourinho may have created a bad atmosphere in the United dressing room and among the coaching staff, many of which remain at the club despite the departure of the Portuguese.

Borussia Dortmund and Schalke are battling to sign Juve centre-back Mehdi Benatia in January. The Moroccan has made just five Serie A starts and may be allowed to leave, with the Bianconeri signing Toulouse teenager Jean-Clair Todibo as his replacement. Todibo, 18, who only made his Ligue 1 debut this season, is locked in a dispute with Toulouse as he's refusing to sign a professional contract amid Juve's interest. (Tuttosport)

Mario Mandzukic has opened negotiations with Juventus over extending his contract but whereas the forward wants a three-year deal, the club is pushing for two years. The Croatian forward is a free agent in 2020 but a deal should be confirmed by February earning him a pay increase of €4.5m (£4m) a year to €7.5m (£6.75m). (Tuttosport)

France
Super agent Pini Zahavi has been employed by Chelsea to make contact with Nabil Fekir's representatives over the future of the Lyon forward. Fekir very nearly signed for Liverpool last summer only for the deal to collapse. Chelsea are now keen on the 25-year-old, although they may have to wait until the summer to try and sign him.

Cesc Fabregas is a Paris Saint-Germain transfer target with the Ligue 1 leaders keen to sign a replacement ahead of Adrian Rabiot's anticipated departure.

sportjyst-fabregas

Fabregas has fallen out of favour under Maurizio Sarri and is a free agent at the end of the season, with PSG sporting director Antero Henrique viewing him as a cut-price option who will bring experience to the midfield. Coach Thomas Tuchel wanted a new midfielder last summer following the retirement of Thiago Motta and with Rabiot poised to leave, the desire has only intensified.

Marseille is willing to sell France international winger Florian Thauvin at the end of the season, rather than offer him a new deal. Thauvin has been a huge hit at the Stade Velodrome since arriving from Newcastle in 2017 and, despite claims the club are poised to agree on a contract, they believe they can fetch €40m-€45m (£36m-41m) for the 25-year-old. (L'Equipe)

Nantes' owners have been "discreetly" negotiating with Cardiff over striker Emiliano Sala despite coach Vahid Halilhodzic wanting the club to offer the Argentine a new contract. Sala, 28, has scored 12 goals in 15 Ligue 1 games for Nantes and has emerged as a leading January target for Cardiff. Sala is out of contract in 2020 and is also a Fulham transfer target.

Germany
Bayern Munich is battling with Liverpool and Atletico Madrid to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. The Germany international has reportedly confessed he can see himself signing for Bayern in the future as his contract at Leipzig expires in 2020. However, Bayern is yet to make an approach for the 22-year-old but are aware of interest from Liverpool and Atletico and may step up their pursuit in the summer. (Bild)

Ranked! The 10 worst signings of the 2017 summer transfer window

10. Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea to Everton, £45m)
Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea to Everton, £45m)
Good player, horrible deal.
Sigurdsson will make Everton better and, at worst, provide them with a level of creativity that they didn’t have before. But that fee? £45m doesn’t buy superstars anymore, but Ronald Koeman could likely have split that money over several areas of his side and come out stronger as a result.
Added to which is the player’s age. Sigurdsson is 28 in September and likely has just a few years left at the top of his game, so it’s hard to envisage a situation in which this is ever thought of as anything other than an enormous overspend.
9. Anthony Modeste (Cologne to Tianjin Quanjian, £30m)
Anthony Modeste (Cologne to Tianjin Quanjian, £30m)
For context, Modeste had the season of his career at Cologne in 2016/17, scoring 24 times in 35 Bundesliga appearances.
At 29, he was perfectly entitled to explore the riches of the Chinese Super League and, the chances are, he’ll likely do very well. However, it’s difficult to reconcile the player’s age, the £30m Tianjin Quanjian paid for him, and China’s intent to ‘grow the game’ in their country.
Modeste is not a highly marketable figure, he doesn’t boast that kind of profile, so this really constitutes the kind of transfer that the CSL were trying to distance themselves from.
8. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal to Liverpool, £35m)
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal to Liverpool, £35m)
Not a bad transfer in the sense that Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t worth the fee Liverpool have paid for him (although his confidence in being allowed to play as a central midfielder does seem misplaced). Instead, it’s the circumstances of what it means for the club he’s left: his willingness to turn his back on Arsenal’s richer contract offer and the club’s subsequent inability to find a replacement.
Just over a week ago, Arsene Wenger was describing Oxlade-Chamberlain as the future of the club and, of course, he named him in his starting XI at Anfield on August 26. Now, the player has just unwittingly become another symbol of the dysfunction at the Emirates.
7. Neymar (Barcelona to PSG, £198m)
 Neymar (Barcelona to PSG, £198m)
A brilliant player who is sufficiently gifted not to have a definitive ‘value’ – but how did this deal make you feel?
We know already that it was driven by factors beyond football. But given the events which have followed - the shenanigans over Nice’s Jean Michael Seri (whose mooted move to Barcelona was allegedly scuppered maliciously by PSG) for instance - it reaffirmed the suspicion that football is becoming little more than billionaire one-upmanship.
The Brazilian is superb, incontestably one of the best players in the world, but his transfer constituted a low point for the game – and its knock-on effects have been significant. The only manageable response is to shrug sadly, then mutter something inaudible about shirt sales and social media presence.
6. Joselu (Stoke to Newcastle, £5m)
Newcastle needed goals ahead of this season and Mike Ashley publicly promised Rafa Benitez “every last penny” for squad improvement. Look how that worked out; Benitez’s future is now growing more uncertain by the day.
Joselu is not substandard, but the 27-year-old won’t guarantee anything like the volume of goals that Benitez was hoping for. In his entire top-flight career, spanning spells in England, Germany and Spain, he has never scored more than nine goals in a league season.
The transfer which brought him to St. James’ Park wasn’t a bad deal - naturally, it was extremely thrifty - but the distance between the improvement he will provide and that which Newcastle needed is absolutely vast.
5. Danny Drinkwater (Leicester to Chelsea, £35m)
Way, way too much money. Chelsea suffered through some unexpected failures on deadline day and clearly would have preferred to have signed Ross Barkley - either additionally or instead of Drinkwater.
So, although the club’s interest in the player was semi-long-term, the fee they ultimately parted with was clearly inflated by their own desperation. Antonio Conte was public in his dissatisfaction over Chelsea’s inertia in the market and this seems like an act of appeasement. Drinkwater is a good player, but is he someone whose form will truly help his club thrive? Not really – he’s just another body.
This looks a Steve Sidwell/Scott Parker move - the classic over-reach by a player attracted to the bright lights and the false promise of a bigger stage. N’Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko are Conte’s default starters, Cesc Fabregas is the attacking variation from the bench, and it’s unclear exactly where Drinkwater’s game time is actually going to come from.
That doesn’t make him a bad player, just a good one guilty of a bad decision.
4. Pablo Zabaleta (unattached to West Ham)
Zabaleta has been a terrific player and, by all accounts, he’s a model professional and thoroughly decent human being.
However, if ever a transfer was quintessentially West Ham, it’s this one. He’s a name, he’s past his best, and his wages are likely huge; it’s symptomatic of the short-termism which has slowly eroded the club’s culture. Zabaleta is a modern Manchester City icon and the hope, presumably, was that some of his winning intangibles could be transplanted into the London Stadium dressing room.
Football rarely works like that, though, and on current evidence this is another misfire from a recruiting department which has been shooting blanks for a while. It’s not really Zabaleta’s fault, he just isn’t the magic bullet for West Ham’s myriad issues.
3. Kylian Mbappe (Monaco to PSG, loan)
Kylian Mbappe (Monaco to PSG, loan)
Ah, well done PSG - good for you. Ligue 1 is over for the season and any Financial Fair Play concerns have been miraculously assuaged by the initial absence of a permanent fee.
Mbappe is a fabulous prospect who should have interested every major club in Europe, but moving to a divisional rival makes this a particular type of deal - the sort pursued for the sake of weakening a rival. This is 2017’s version of Gonzalo Higuain moving from Napoli to Juventus, or Mario Gotze leaving Dortmund for Bayern Munich.
He’s very gifted and will presumably do extremely well at Parc des Princes, but anything which helps erodes the culture of a competition to such a degree belongs on this list.
2. Paulinho (Guangzhou Evergrande to Barcelona, £36,4m)
Paulinho (Guangzhou Evergrande to Barcelona, £36,4m)
Forget the preconceptions about Paulinho based on his disappointing time in England and just consider the raw details: he’s 29 years old, has been playing in the Chinese Super League, and cost Barcelona over £35m.
It’s perfectly plausible that the Brazilian was just never suited to the Premier League, although whispers about a less-than-committed attitude suggests he made it hard for himself. Still, the chances of him showing his worth in Barcelona seem equally slender. The size of the Camp Nou and the club’s stratospheric standards make the task hard enough, but consider the calibre of his predecessors and also the type of player that the natives typically warm to in Catalonia.
The missing ingredient is finesse. He’ll be a tough sell.
1. John Terry (unattached to Aston Villa)
John Terry (unattached to Aston Villa)
When a player achieves certains things in his career, he’s afforded privileges - one of which is the opportunity to carry on well beyond his expiration date.

What did Steve Bruce see in Terry? It’s obvious: a serial winner with the full collection of club medals who, at a lower level, could infect an impressionable group of players with his winning DNA.
Five games into the season, Villa find themselves towards the foot of the Championship and have conceded the third-most goals in the division.
That’s the problem: this kind of move always sounds smart, but rarely do all of those intangibles stack up as they should. Terry is no Dave Mackay and Bruce is certainly no Brian Clough.

Philippe Coutinho: Liverpool midfielder scores for Brazil in World Cup qualifier

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho scored on his first appearance of the season as Brazil beat Ecuador 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday.
coutinho
The 25-year-old has missed the start of the Reds' campaign with a back injury amid interest from Barcelona.
Liverpool have rejected three Barca bids, the latest in the region of £114m, with the transfer window in Spain to close later on Friday.
Coutinho combined with Gabriel Jesus to add Brazil's second goal.
After Coutinho sent a clever lobbed pass into Jesus' path, the Manchester City forward bravely headed back across goal for Coutinho to slot in.
Barcelona's new midfielder Paulinho, formerly of Tottenham, had put Brazil 1-0 up.
Brazil have already qualified for next summer's World Cup in Russia, and they lead the South American standings by 11 points from Colombia.
Argentina are currently fifth in the 10-team qualification standings with three matches remaining, which would only earn them a play-off place.
Lionel Messi's side played out a 0-0 draw in Uruguay during which Barca's Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez limped off with eight minutes left.
The 30-year-old later tweeted that he was "OK" and had only been suffering from "muscle cramps".
Before the match, Suarez and Barca team-mate Messi posed for photos in special kits promoting a pan South-American bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
Suarez and Messi's international meeting ended in a stalemate
Earlier on Thursday, Paraguay's president said the country was joining with Argentina and Uruguay to bid for the tournament, with Chile also reportedly set to join.
In June, European football's governing body Uefa said it would "strongly support" either a pan-British or an English bid to host in 2030.
A joint bid from the United States, Mexico and Canada is the favourite to win hosting rights for the 2026 tournament, with Morocco the only other candidate so far.

DID GIROUD'S WIFE VETO ARSENAL EXIT AND SUMMER MOVE TO EVERTON?

The France international was heavily linked with a move away from Emirates Stadium, but ultimately opted to stay put and see out the summer window

DID GIROUD'S WIFE VETO ARSENAL EXIT AND SUMMER MOVE TO EVERTON?
Olivier Giroud opted against leaving Arsenal for Everton as his wife did not want to make the move, Charlie Adam claims.
The France international sparked transfer talk after struggling to hold down a regular starting role in the 2016-17 campaign.
With Alexis Sanchez often favoured in a central striking berth, and with a World Cup to think about in 2018, it was suggested that the 30-year-old could move on.
A return to his homeland was mooted, along with a stay in the Premier League at Goodison Park, but Giroud eventually opted to stay put.
Stoke midfielder Adam has, however, suggested that he may not have reached that decision by himself, telling Radio 5 Live: "I heard his partner [Jennifer] refused the deal.
"The deal was nearly done, he wanted to come, but I heard it was his girlfriend or wife that turned it down."
Giroud announced on his decision to remain with Arsenal: "There was something in my soul and in my heart which told me to stay.
"I've been hesitating because I'm the most happy man when I play and I am on the pitch.
"But I keep the faith and I still believe I can have an important part to play this season in the club and I feel good in my head and also physically.”
He has stepped off the bench in all of Arsenal’s fixtures so far this season, with that run starting in the Community Shield and taking in three Premier League fixtures.
Giroud was then included from the start by his country in a 4-0 World Cup qualifying victory over the Netherlands.

NEYMAR REVEALS COUTINHO'S 'ANGUISH' AS LIVERPOOL REFUSE TO SANCTION BARCELONA TRANSFER

The Brazil star is struggling to deal with the breakdown of his switch to the Liga giants, according to his international team-mate.

p. coutinho in brazil
Philippe Coutinho is struggling to come to terms with the "sadness" of Liverpool refusing his transfer to Barcelona, according to Brazil team-mate Neymar.
The Reds star was keen to move to Camp Nou,  handing in a transfer request in August ahead of the Premier League season beginning in order to try and force the situation.
Barcelona remain determined to add Coutinho to their squad but Liverpool have no intention in selling the 25-year-old, despite him making it clear to those at the club that he wants to leave.
Coutinho missed Liverpool's 4-0 victory over Arsenal last weekend due to a back problem but featured as a substitute in Brazil's 2-0 win over Ecuador on Thursday, scoring his country's second of the evening.
According to Neymar, who left Barcelona in a world record €222 million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain last month, suggested that Coutinho was unable to enjoy the occasion.
"Unfortunately, instead of being a happy time for him [Coutinho], for his family, it's a moment of anguish, disappointment and sadness," Neymar told ESPN FC.
"I like to see him happy because he is a team-mate and a friend that I've had for a long time.
"He was rewarded with a goal today, for his and our joy."
Brazil coach Tite also spoke of Coutinho's struggles following the World Cup qualifying win and the speculation surrounding the 25-year-old's future, adding: "Of course it affects him."
