Chelsea staff fear ‘dead man walking’ Antonio Conte will be sacked

Chelsea staff fear Antonio Conte is a ‘dead man walking’ at Stamford Bridge and expect the Italian to be sacked before he’s able to complete a second season at the club.

The former Juventus boss won the Premier League and got Chelsea to the FA Cup final in his first season at the club but he’s been on collision course with his board this season over their failure to meet his expectations in the transfer market.

Conte was unhappy that the board didn’t sign a number of his targets, including Romelu Lukaku, Fernando Llorente and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Chelsea already trail Premier League leaders Manchester City by nine points and are without a win in three matches following their 3-3 draw with Roma in the Champions League.

Conte’s mood around the training ground has been noted by the club’s heirachy and there’s a sense that tensions are beginning to boil over over the club’s mixed start to the season. Chelsea have had 13 different managers during Roman Abramovich’s 14 years at the club and the club’s staff believe it’s only a matter of time before Conte goes, according to Duncan Castles.
