Jose Mourinho would ensure that Mesut Ozil would be a success at Manchester United, according to former Chelsea star Claude Makelele.
Despite a positive update from his agent a week ago, Ozil appears destined to leave Arsenal, be it in January or at the end of the season when his current deal expires.
Manchester United and Jose Mourinho, his former manager at Real Madrid, have been credited with a strong interest in the Germany international with reports on Thursday claiming he has already told his teammates he is destined for a move to Old Trafford.
After failing to fully justify his £42.5million price tag since his move from the Spanish giants four years ago, Makelele is confident Mourinho is capable of helping Ozil restore is reputation as one of the world’s best playmakers. ‘When you talk about the top players you want them to be in a good team and always putting in a performance the way you want,’ Makelele told beIN Sports.
‘It would be good for him I think if he were to move. He has been for a long time. ‘I think maybe Jose Mourinho would use him better and would make him a success at Manchester United for sure.’
