The Reds boss has faced a crisis of defensive injuries this season and John Aldridge believes that could force the German to add again during the summer
Jurgen Klopp has seen his defensive options decimated by injury this season, and the depth of the Anfield team is being tested to the fullest.
The promising graduates of the academy have received a last-year reverence, while the versatile Fabinho has been asked to retire from his midfield position to cover himself in the middle half.
The Brazilian is used to playing that role and does not seem out of place, but Aldridge continues to believe that a more appropriate option will be sought at some point to offer assistance to Virgil van Dijk and Co.
The former Reds forward told Liverpool Echo on the back of a tenacious 1-0 victory over Brighton: "Fabinho once again showed his versatility for Liverpool.
"I wish I did not have to do it for much longer with the return of Joel Matip.
"It's likely that he will return on the weekend against Crystal Palace and Joe Gomez is on the road to recovery, so I think Liverpool are overcoming the defensive crisis they had, but Fabinho has helped massively."
"However, this summer, Klopp may be thinking about bringing in a central defender, Matip and Dejan Lovren get many hits and injuries, but Gomez is the one who has been extremely unlucky.
"I hope that Matip returns to the defense at the weekend, but Fabinho deserves to keep his place somewhere in this team."
Klopp has been talking about the qualities of a man acquired from Monaco last summer, and Liverpool has benefited from having acquired a player capable of occupying several different positions.
The German tactician said of Fabinho: "He is a brilliant player and I am happy to be able to play [defense], now it is quite clear [that he can play in defense].

"It's not like it's one attack after another in Brighton, we had the ball most of the time, so it makes sense to have a good footballer in that position."
"I think Brighton tried a little bit to bring the long balls and [to Glenn] Murray around, that's what they did, by the way, against Joe Gomez in the home game as well.
"He did well in these situations and with the ball is absolutely clear, he has a defensive brain and he can do it in different positions, it's good."
