Recently sacked coach Jose Mourinho opted to stay in a hotel during his Manchester United stint, racking up a stunning bill for his 895-day stay.
Jose Mourinho was ‘in good spirits’ during his emotional farewell at the Lowry Hotel — his Manchester residence.
The former Red Devils’ coach spent 895 days in its plush Riverside suite with his bill reaching a staggering £779,000 ($A1.4 million).
The luxurious, five-star hotel is a popular choice with A-listers with Robbie Williams, Rita Ora, Bono and even boxing legend Muhammad Ali among previous visitors.
Mourinho lived at the Lowry while being in charge at Old Trafford with his family staying at their £25 million mansions in Belgravia, London.
But his Manchester accommodation must have surely felt like home as the suite had a massive living-room, two TVs, kitchenette and a mini-bar for guests.
Daily Mail reports that the 55-year-old coach even familiarised himself with the hotel’s staff with many of them left ‘heartbroken’ following his sacking.
Mourinho was reportedly ‘in good spirits’ during his emotional, last supper held at the Lowry’s bar, saying goodbyes and giving hugs around.
A resident told Mail: “’It looked like he was doing his paperwork, having a snack and saying his goodbyes.
“He made a point of seeking some people out and it looked like he was in good spirits.
“A lot of the staff appeared to be upset and a couple went in for a hug.
Having lived there for two-and-a-half years, Mourinho’s bill reached a whopping £779,000 as the Riverside suite costs around £870 a night.
Mourinho was sacked by United on Tuesday after a face-to-face meeting with Ed Woodward and pocketed a £24million payoff.
The decision came after the Red Devils’ worst start to a season in 28 years, having lost the trust of the majority of his squad and fallen out with executive vice-chairman Woodward.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been confirmed as United’s interim coach and will make his debut against Cardiff, the team he managed in 2014, on Saturday.
