Jose Mourinho demands more from Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan in ‘big games’

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has challenged Henrikh Mkhitaryan to step up his performances against the club’s top six rivals.

The Armenian has started the season brightly and already has five assists to his name in just three Premier League matches

Mkhitaryan’s form is in stark contrast to this time last year when he was struggling to settle at Old Trafford and was left out of Mourinho’s matchday squad for two months.

The 28-year-old found his form in the second half of the season and scored United’s second in their 2-0 Europa League final win against Ajax.

However, according to ESPN, Mourinho believes Mkhitaryan needs to prove himself more often in the matches against the club’s top six rivals and has challenged him to find consistency.

Mkhitaryan scored the only goal in United’s 1-0 win against Tottenham in December but the bulk of his best performances came in the Europa League.

Mourinho is hoping that Mkhitaryan is now fully settled in the north-west and the signing of Nemanja Matic can help to provide him with more freedom in the final third
